Short biography

Stefanie Fridrik has worked as scientific project assistant (prae-doc) on the research project “Agonistic Cultural Politics (AGONART) – Case Studies on the Conflictual Transformation of Cultural Quarters” (supervised by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Oliver Marchart) since December 2020. She studied Art History at the University of Innsbruck and the University of Vienna (master’s degree, 2019). For her master thesis she assessed the significance of cultural education for the decolonization of ethnographic museums in Vienna. She further completed a bachelor’s degree in Comparative Literature at the University of Vienna.

Between 2018 and 2020 she worked as an art educator at Leopold Museum and since 2017 she has participated curatorially in several exhibitions and educational projects in the independent art scene as well the museum sector. Since September 2019 she has also been a lecturer on the subject “Art in Vienna” at the Vienna Study Abroad Center of Wake Forest University.

Research interests

Institutional Critique (main focus on the museum), postcolonial theory and decolonization of hegemonial structures, discourse analysis, qualitative methods, research field: conflict theory, agonistic democracy theory and art and cultural policy in Austria
