New book out soon: Debating Unemployment Policy - Political Communication and the Labour Market in Western Europe

The new book will be published by Cambridge University Press and will be available by May 2019.

Edited by Flavia Fossati (IPW), Laurent Bernhard (University of Zurich), Regula Hänggli (Université de Fribourg) and Hanspeter Kriesi (European University Institute)

Description:

In this edited book the authors explore the political strategies of different political actors who debate on the pressing issue of raising unemployment during the Great Recession in 2010. The book starts with an overview of the political and communication context in the countries (Germany, Denmark, France, Italy and Switzerland, UK), develops a theoretical framework for the analysis of political communication in public debates and then proceeds to analyze the different determinants of political actors’ strategies in such debates. The book is relevant for both scholars of political communication as well as policy experts that are interested in country-specific strategies to fight discrimination in difficult economic contexts.
