The Centre for European Integration Research (EIF) is led by Professor Gerda Falkner, alongside Professor Patrick Müller (who works jointly at the University of Vienna and the Vienna School of International Studies) and administrative manager Florian Sowa. Post-Docs in this thematic area comprise Peter Slominski and six more, as well as a Project Team Member with an MA and a Student Assistant. Externally funded projects currently cover the Accountability of Frontex in EU Border Management (Austrian Science Fund FWF).

Mission statement

The Centre for European Integration Research (EIF) is dedicated to research and teaching in the field of European integration. Originally, EIF was the “Institut für Europäische Integrationsforschung” (EIF) within the Austrian Academy of Sciences. After moving into the University of Vienna in 2012, EIF was initially a Research Platform connecting four different Departments of the University. In 2019, EIF became a Research Centre within the Department of Political Science of the University of Vienna.
