Barbara Prainsack, Chair of the European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies (EGE), reappointed for another term

In February 2025, Barbara Prainsack, the current Chair of the European Group on Science and New Technologies, was reappointed by EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen for a further three years.

In recognition of her work and commitment in the EGE during the previous mandate 2022-2025, reflected in a significant number of important EGE opinions and statements in a wide range of EU policy areas, and the valuable advice she provided to the Commission in monitoring and developing the Union's legislation and policies, Ursula von der Leyen extended Barbara Prainsack's membership of the EGE for another three years.

The EGE was established in 1991 as an independent advisory body of the President of the European Commission. It advises the President of the European Commission and to the College of Commissioners as a whole on all aspects of EU legislation and policies, where ethical, societal and fundamental rights issues intersect with the development of science and new technologies, such as planetary ethics, democracy, values in policy-making, pandemics and crisis management, genome editing, artificial intelligence and the future of work.

The IPW cordially congratulates Barbara Prainsack!
