Eldar Shafir, Professor of Psychology at Princeton University, author of the best-selling book Scarcity: Why Having Too Little Means So Much, and co-founder of ideas42, a non-profit organization that uses behavioral insights to solve tough societal issues.
Furthermore, the conference will feature a panel session with European policy makers on the ‘state of affairs on nudging in policy-making’ and an international debate on vaccination, as one pressing societal issue with diverging views on the potential role of nudging. Katharina T. Paul will be part of the panel session on vaccination.
Similar to the first conference, this conference will highlight innovative and multidisciplinary nudge research and encourage the exchange of exciting ideas and findings between researchers, professionals, and policy makers in an international setting. However, we also feel that it is now time to move beyond studies demonstrating the ‘mere’ effectiveness of nudges in a variety of settings and address important topics relating to the urgent question of when, how, and for whom nudges work and are a preferable instrument compared to other interventions aimed at improving decisions.
The conference will highlight innovative perspectives by offering the floor to studies and experiments that focus on nudging in challenging contexts, for example by targeting underprivileged samples. The conference will also showcase nudging research that addresses complex issues such as inequality, poverty, and solidarity in important societal challenges including the energy transition, the protein transition, lifestyle interventions and many more. We explicitly invite contributions from a variety of disciplines, including psychology, ethics, economics, law, public administration, and communication science.
